- As many of you will have realised,
- this has been an on-going argument,
- which the editor of CU Amiga among
- other people has been blabbering on
- about whether they hurt the market or
- not.
-
- Well, as usual, I'm here to settle the
- argument once and for all. NO
- NONSENCE! That's me!
-
- My answer is going to seem obvious,
- but I don't care, here goes:
-
- I hate to support the likes of Dykesy,
- but coverdisks are not capable of
- damaging a market. Let's look at the
- facts, coverdisks are motionless and
- have no arms to carry deadly weapons.
- Therefore they can]5NOT]1 harm anybody,
- let alone a market. Has anybody tried
- ]5ASKING]1 the coverdisks whether they are
- hurting the market? ]5 NO!]1 They
- haven't, so leave the poor disks
- alone, they're only doing their job.

- Five mental treatments later....
- @1
- Erm... yes... well, I seem to have
- gotten my wires crossed somewhat.
- I've recently been informed that disks
- are not alive and that I've totally
- missed the point of the argument.....
- silly me!
-
- Aaannnyy... (Doh! Shit!) ...way. In
- all honesty, I do think coverdisks
- damage the Amiga market. I mean, come
- on! It's blatantly obvious they are!
- The only people defending commercial,
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- full price products on disks are
- editors of large magazines (i.e.
- Dykesy from CU Amiga).

- Look at it this way, if there's a
- farty little program included on a
- coverdisk which may not be brilliant,
- but still does the job, you're not
- going to fork out the money for a
- newer up-to-date program are you?!
- Well, I wouldn't... and I don't!
-
- As for FinalWriter 4 Lite on Amiga
- Format, I was going to buy Final
- Writer in the near future, but now, I
- seriously doubt it.
-
- Other programs such as Final Calc
- etc., fulfill my needs also. So there
- goes another program. Howz about
- Pagesetter? It was given away with
- Amiga Doormat some time ago, even
- though I'd bought the package for
- about £80 just a year before! Guess
- who was peeved off.
-
- To top it all off Pagesetter 2.0 was
- given away a few months later! What a
- bar-steward! So, full commercial
- coverdisks seem to hurt most people.
- I.E. The ones who do buy the
- software, seeing what they've not long
- bought being given away on a mag, and
- the people who are considering buying
- the software, the chap that sees the
- program that he wants on a coverdisk.
-
- Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally
- against giving away full packages, but
- this should only be done when a market
- is very healthy (i.e. like it was
- from 1989-1993), but not now.
-
- The answer, dear readers is so
- blatantly obvious that it's erm...
- well... blatantly obvious actually.
- #8
- STOP GIVING AWAY FULL PRICE PROGRAMS
- AND STICK TO COMMERCIAL DEMO'S
- AND PUBLIC DOMAIN!
- @1
- (I.E. Utils, very restricted
- commercial stuff and short game
- demos.)
-
- Why not give away something like the
- DMC Gold demo, or Nucleus, or decent
- P.D Demos like... erm... well, I'm
- sure there's a decent one out
- there.................. somewhere?
- @3]5
- After that remarkable argument, I'll
- have to go and feed my pet disk,
- Boris.
- @4
- Say hello to the readers
- Boris.......... Boris? .... arghhh!
- @1
- Hello.
